30 CWILL BC authors and illustrators presented 35 new titles last night to a huge crowd at last night’s Hycroft Event. A yearly event hosted by The Vancouver Children’s Roundtable and CWILL BC, the Hycroft Event takes place in November at Hycroft University Women’s Club.
The very first time I attended the Hycroft Event, it was as a spectator a dozen years ago when I was a college student attending the first year of an illustration and design program. My high school English teacher invited me along because she remembered my interest in writing and illustration. We watched Nan Gregory launch her extraordinarily successful first book How Smudge Came. This year, Nan Gregory launched her newest book Pink and was the special guest speaker.
Book sales, provided by Vancouver Kidsbooks, were brisk and while the table was well stocked at the beginning of the event, many titles sold out before the end.

The presentations were energetic, varied and enthusiastic. Each author and illustrator was given 2 minutes to present their book which made for much fast talking, poem performing, costume wearing, song singing and prop propping (and even some fire wielding).
