The biennial F.G. Bressani Prize has been instituted to honour the

literary work created by Canadian authors of Italian descent and to foster the growth of Italian Canadian literature by encouraging emerging and aspiring writers. The Prize is named after the Jesuit father, Francesco Giuseppe Bressani, (Rome, 1612- Florence, 1672) the first Italian Missionary to Canada, who wrote Breve Relatione, and who can be considered the precursor of Italian Canadian writing.
