CWILL BC and Celebrate Science!

The first Children’s Science Writer’s Festival, Celebrate Science: A BC Sciencefest, is taking place this weekend at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC.  The event runs from 9-12. The event is a fundraiser in support of the work of the Canadian Children’s Book Centre and is a science extravaganza for teachers, teacher-librarians, student teachers, public librarians, child care workers and parents.

The half-day program (8:30 AM to 12:30 PM) will feature talented Canadian writers and illustrators whose books and passion for science spans all ages. They’ll explore scientific topics with the audience and highlight a wide range of books available for youth.

The keynote speaker is Professor Jaymie Matthews, astrophysicist at the University of British Columbia and a passionate promoter of astronomy education. There will also be authors from the Children’s Writers and Illustrators of BC (CWILL BC). Participating authors are: Jude Isabella, Cora Lee, Deborah Hodge, Adrienne Mason, Claire Eamer, Fiona Bayrock, Avis Harley, Maggie de Vries, Paula Johanson, Tanya Kyi, Shar Levine and Leslie Johnstone.
