CWILL BC and BC Book Prizes support readers in Bella Bella

On July 12, 2013, the general store and Thistalah Memorial Library in the community of Bella Bella burned, destroying all their books. The directors of BC Book Prizes initiated a campaign to replenish the collection. With a huge donation of books from children’s writers and illustrators from CWILL BC, a shipment of books for children of all ages travelled by courier and Canada Post to this remote community. The library was rebuilt, and on March 2014, it was reopened with the Lieutenant Governor, Judith Guichon, the RCMP, Ian Reid, and other dignitaries in attendance.

Thank you to everyone at BC Book Prizes and CWILL BC Society for the support. Jess Housty of the Thistalah Memorial Library writes that “We are thoroughly enjoying watching the new library blossom and seeing how excited our community is to use and cherish this new collection!”
