Set in 1959, Nora’s mother has recently died and her family has just moved from the Okanagan to North Vancouver. Nora understandably is sad with a figurative hole in her heart, from the loss of much of what she has known, friends, school, extended family, including of course her mother. Her cousin Lizzie was born “a blue baby” and so has another kind of hole in her heart at a time when open heart surgery is brand new. This is a story of hope as each girl helps to heal the other’s hole in her heart.

A Hole in My Heart is a middle grade novel, published by Dundurn.
